CGRN Helps Baltimore Gardeners Make Things Happen!

Project PLASE's membership to CGRN (Community Greening Resource Network) has made many of our green projects possible this year. CGRN is a program that supports community and family gardens throughout Baltimore. Individuals or organizations become members by paying a small annual fee; included in the membership is access to materials (free plants, tools, seeds and soil!), education, and connections for gardening. The Parks & People Foundation and Maryland Cooperative Extension are the founding partners and sponsors of CGRN. The program is based on similar ones in other cities like Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee and Boston. If you'd like more information, email the CGRN Coordinator at greening@parksandpeople.org.

Last week, we used free plants (hostas and a persimmon tree) and soil from CGRN to spruce up the back patio of our transitional and permanent housing facility on Maryland Avenue. We worked with high school volunteers from the Civic Education Project (CEP), a leadership and citizenship development program based at Northwestern University. The volunteers cleaned up the patio and back yard, weeded, planted and watered in the sweltering 100 degree heat. They did a great job and made the patio ready for our summer-time resident bbqs. Thanks CGRN and thanks CEP!
